Gijs has over 30 years of experience in strategic planning, policymaking, and process improvement within the healthcare sector and professional services firms. His career spans consultancy leadership, interim management, and senior executive roles.

He has extensive board-level and governance experience, having served on the board of directors of Capgemini and on EY’s management board, where he was responsible for Consulting Services. His most recent executive role was CEO and Managing Director of the Netherlands Red Cross.

At this stage of his career, Gijs focuses on supervisory board roles, executive coaching, and selected special projects. He brings a broad strategic perspective, strong governance expertise, and a pragmatic approach to complex organizational challenges.

Gijs’s strength lies in strategic oversight, guiding organizations through complexity and being creative as a leader with focus on innovation and ‘earthholder value’.

Gijs coaches exclusively in Dutch. His style combines creativity and activation with reflection and review – strengths he brings together from his experience as both an executive and a supervisory board member.

 

Alongside his supervisory board roles, Gijs focuses on executive coaching through NGL-International and Executive Sherpa Coaching. Over the years, he has coached more than 50 C-level leaders across a wide range of sectors and industries.

 

His coaching experience includes energy management and resilience, purpose and impact, leadership development and creativity, storytelling and vision, navigating boardroom dynamics, team development, onboarding executives and high potentials, career transitions to executive roles, and positioning for supervisory board functions.

 

Gijs draws on extensive experience as a consultant, interim manager, executive, and (supervisory) board member. His working style is enterprising, energetic, and highly people-oriented, characterized by innovation, creativity, and a strong focus on bringing people and organizations together.
