Dutch Ministry of Education, Culture and Science reduces absenteeism by 55% thanks to Lifeguard

Lifeguard supported employees of the Ministry of Education, Culture and Science (OCW) through the NVS Team Coaching program. This initiative, which combines assessments with practical coaching sessions, focuses on strengthening resilience, recovery capacity, and team connection.

The results were striking: absenteeism was cut by more than half, and team energy saw a significant increase.

Oscar Delnooz, Director of Research and Science Policy:
“It’s important for OWB staff to take part in Lifeguard sessions to strengthen their resilience and recovery skills. Too often, we push ourselves—consciously or unconsciously—past our limits. We either miss the signals or ignore them for too long, and we don’t take time for sustainable recovery. I’m no exception to that.”

“The short-term gains this brings simply don’t outweigh the long-term loss of energy, joy at work, and overall employability. There’s nothing wrong with working hard or going through peak periods, as long as adequate time for recovery follows. What’s crucial is that we start recognizing the signs together, look out for each other, and support one another in staying healthy and fit.”
